Google “Top Ten Reasons to Work for Yourself at Home” and you will get pages and pages of entertaining reading. We’re sure you can come up with a quick list even if you’ve never had the pleasure of joining a conference call in fuzzy pink slippers.
We have an ongoing list of benefits and pleasures that we’ve experienced from this blessed life of working for ourselves. We thought it would be fun to share a portion of our list here and then keep it going with your input. Let us know, as you begin your Zeal journey, what unexpected bonuses you get from not punching someone else’s time clock.
Here is a start (in no particular order) from our team:
- You can discover true inspiration and tap into what energizes you, making the most of your working hours.
Think about it, what frees your mind or brings you back to a calm happy state when you feel overworked? Is it dancing around the kitchen to Bruno Mars in your underwear, a long walk alone or a few hours of yoga and meditation? Try explaining to your boss that you will be a zillion times more productive if you can check out of the office for a few hours to find your muse.
- The globe is your office. You can work anywhere.
One word here: Travel, Travel, and Travel. Not to sound too Green Eggs and Ham, but you can work on a bus, on a train, or on a plane. You can work on a dock, in a car, or in a bar…you get the grand idea.
- You will be building your own dreams, not fueling someone else’s.
This doesn’t need much commentary, be a dream builder for yourself, you’ll be happier.
- Chaser to #2: You can live anywhere.
In a Yurt, o.k. maybe not a Yurt…do they even have electricity? But, you can live in Alaska, or in Hawaii, or on a boat, or in an R.V.
You can live wherever it is that makes your heart happy!
- “Weekend hair, don’t care,” everyday.
This may be a bigger blessing for the gals but it is freeing to throw your hair back in a “messy ponytail” and be done with it! Or, for the guys, no shaving or fighting with a tie. Either way, you can give that hour of mirror time to something far more productive.
- You will be healthier and more fit.
Now obviously you will have to get off the sofa for this but your opportunity for a healthier life will meet you everyday with the sunrise. Working in an office chained to a desk for eight hours a day is not healthy. You can only do so many butt clench exercises in your seat and those don’t count for much cardio.
- Your dog won’t hate you.
He won’t jump on your bed and chew your shoes in retaliation
for being left alone all day. Maybe a walk with the little fella doubles as a break for inspiration?
- Everything is better in pajamas.
Stormy morning…soft brushed cotton jammies straight from the dryer…aaahhhhh. You are ready to rock the day from the coziest start ever!
- You meet more goals because you set them and you own them.
How many times have you been given a goal from an employer that you either didn’t understand or found it to be completely unattainable? Working for yourself allows you to set realistic goals and the freedom to make adjustments as necessary.
That’s it for now. We have many more fun and life changing reasons we choose to work for ourselves but we’d love to hear from you. Let us know how your life has changed for the better and we will add it to our list.
